Once Davey Havok and Jade Puget of Black Audio started thinking about forming a duo that roped in their influences, they landed on the future-pop genre, which Davey describes as a cross between electronic body music and synth-pop. “Only Things We Love” is an uncanny aural collage of the 80’s New Wave sound. Listeners of a certain age will instantly recognize sound reminiscent of bands as Ultravox, Depeche Mode, New Order, The Human League, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark and Erasure. “Musically, it has a lot of high-energy dance and more dreamlike midtempo, cooler moments, but it is a bit darker, and that’s something that just came without any conscious directive.” –Davey Havok
